A popular feature of the Tamworth Castle Grounds is set for a six-figure facelift!
A sum of £375,000 has been earmarked for the regeneration of the play area. It will see the much-used site brought back up to standard, to meet the ever changing world we live in.
Council leader Danny Cook, spoke about the regeneration and what it means to the town.
“For me this is something we should be especially proud of as a council. To be able to improve such a popular site is something that will mean a lot to people.””I was the cabinet member for regeneration in 2006 when the Castle Grounds play area was put in.”
Remaining popular with parents and children alike, the play area within the Castle Grounds has been there for a 13 years now in its current form and is showing its age.
Earlier this year Tamworth Borough Council also announced further investment into the Tamworth Castle.
In early 2021 Tamworth Castle will have a short closure to finalise the new "Battle and Tribute" interactive attraction aimed at appealing to a broader audience, this has been supported by Heritage Lottery Funding, Tamworth Borough Council, Arts Council and Friends of the Castle.http://www.tamworthcastle.co.uk/battle-and-tribute
Not only will the new exhibition be something new inside but the Castle will also be illuminated with new lighting, the inefficient orange floodlights will be replaced with energy efficient colour changing units. This will not only improve the carbon footprint of the castle but also revitalise Tamworth Castle as a landmark, also being the first council building with the ability to join in with national acts of remembrance and tribute through illuminating in a range of colours.
Councillor Jeremy Oates said
"This idea was inspired by someone calling on the council to join in with Baby Loss Awareness Week but at the time we simply couldn't deliver, since then the project as developed and fits in with loads of other activities."
"I have lived in Tamworth all my life and the castle has always been lit with the orange lights we have and they complement the stone but new lighting will really make it noticeable especially during outdoor events or for passing traffic on the A5"
"Our history and heritage should be promoted and celebrated in every way possible"
