Tamworth’s Conservative Councillors have praised investment in Tamworth Library by Staffordshire County Council.

Local Conservatives are committed to public services such as local libraries. This commitment has been backed up by a huge refurbishment of Tamworth library.

Cllr Robert Pritchard said, “Tamworth is a popular and busy library and we agree that the facility deserves investment. The whole inside of the building is being stripped back to the bare brick as part of the refurbishment.”

During the refurbishment, which started in October, library services have been moved to a building on Albert Road. The temporary building on Albert Road has a good space, is fully staffed and provides a good service for users.

When the service returns to Corporation Street, the refurbished library will offer a full range of books, computer access and activities. The reopening date is expected to be in June, just in time to celebrate the library's 50th anniversary.

Cllr Samuel Smith said, “Tamworth Library on Corporation Street is currently undergoing a major refurbishment.  During these works, the library services, as well as opening hours, have been maintained at the temporary Albert Street location. The last month, I have twice used both printing and computer facilities at Albert Road, and found the equipment, services and friendliness of staff to be outstanding.  Tamworth Library, Corporation Street is due to open in June and the refurbishment of is fantastic news for Tamworth.”

As part of the reopening of the library, The Tamworth Councillors are encouraging everyone in Tamworth to join the library and sign up for a library card.

Cllr Jeremy Oates said, “Reading is a vital skill and we want families and book lovers to join our local libraries, ensuring that this important local service is enjoyed by all in our community.”
